Keep calm and carry on in the face of uncertainty

It has been one of those semesters, hasn’t it? If you are anything like me, stress has bogged you down with all these tests and exams, plus you have a social life, and it has just been a lot. Now this new problem, the coronavirus, has been added on. The world has gone into a panic and people are afraid to do much of anything because of this virus. Piled on with all the other stress, it’s almost hard to stay afloat for some. When it comes to the stress and the worry that goes along with everything that has happened in the last few weeks, there are a few things we need to remember.

When I was young, my mom would always tell me, “This too shall pass.” I know it’s cliche but it is true. At some point, things will get better. It may not be for a while, but at some point, the pandemic will go away. I know it’s hard to listen to people talk about it and hear on the news about all the people that are getting sick and how bad it’s getting, but you have to remember that more than likely, it won’t always be like this. This will get better.

The other thing we need to do is not panic. Again, I know that sounds easy to say, but when we panic, we don’t use clear judgment and instead, we become rash and do things that, if we had stopped and thought about them first, we probably wouldn’t have done. Panic has never helped anyone. Nothing will be accomplished if we all panic. This is a thing that we need to work together to fix. You have probably heard that you need to wash your hands for 20 seconds and all that stuff, and as simple as it sounds, it is really important and we need to do it. The more we panic, the worse it will become, so we need to try our best to relax and get through this pandemic as best as we can. The school has taken measures to protect us and make sure that no one else gets sick if they can help it. We need to do the same thing. If you feel sick, you need to go to the doctor; don’t wait. The longer you ignore it, the more people you could affect by coming into contact with them.

With the virus, the hard thing to do is focus on anything, especially school. Trust me, I have had a hard time as well. I’m no expert, but if you are anything like me, try to do things that you enjoy to get your mind off of it and stop worrying. We still have classwork and exams, so we need to focus as best we can on those things. We can’t ignore them. If you find yourself stressed and worried about the virus, play video games, watch a movie, listen to music, or do something else that gets your mind off of the stress, so you can better focus on your schoolwork.

This virus is dangerous and should be taken seriously, so we need to do our part to stop the spreading. If you feel sick, self-quarantine yourself until you can see a doctor. I know it’s not fun, but it needs to be done. The virus is spreading fast, and a lot of people are being affected, but we can do our part to not get it nor spread it. Remember that this will go away. Things will get better, but for right now we need to work together to make sure no one else is affected until we can figure out an ultimate fix.
